01 Description of Research

My research centers around two major themes. The first focuses on the resilience of social-ecological systems and policy integration. I take an interdisciplinary approach to connect water and forest environments, food systems, and policies, examining their combined contributions to sustainability. My goal is to imagine what an ideal Earth would look like 100 years from now and to collaboratively design scenarios that guide us toward this envisioned future.

The second theme addresses sustainability within aging and shrinking societies. As demographic changes introduce both challenges and opportunities for sustainable development, I investigate their effects on natural conservation and urban sustainability. I work on developing technological, socioeconomic, and institutional interventions to enhance long-term sustainability and provide actionable policy guidance. Additionally, I remain committed to exploring the ecological identity of Japanese people, particularly how demographic shifts influence their relationship with nature.
