Ahmed Bawa is Professor of Higher Education at the Johannesburg Business School, having just vacated the position of Chief Executive Officer at Universities South Africa. Retaining a continuing interest in Theoretical Physics, his primary research interests now are focused on understanding the evolution of universities as knowledge-intensive social institutions with view to the various transformations occurring in the world of knowledge. This is linked to his interest in the broad, complex relationship between science and society. In South Africa, he works on the ongoing challenge related to the decolonization of the knowledge system which in turn speaks to the local footprint of universities in their context and the implications of this on their knowledge agenda and projects.
