The Humanities, Society, and the Future of Academic Knowledge
These are exciting times for humanities scholarship. On the one hand, scholars are staking out new and socially relevant fields such as geo-humanities and animal studies, and embarking on innovative and large-scale digital projects.
On the other hand, budgets and enrollment figures are shrinking and the public and policymakers are losing faith in the value of humanistic scholarship.
In this research area, we explore some of these conflicting future directions.
