科学者の信頼問題を中心に科学と社会の在り方を研究している。主な関心は、科学と政治、科学的助言の在り方、科学の倫理問題、科学とジェンダー、大型科学の在り方、リスク認知と科学知識、科学技術政策である。大学院までは素粒子実験（物理学）を修めた理系出身の文系研究者である。
