地域資源の価値を中心に、生物多様性、健康／福祉、地域社会の結びつきと、それらが現代社会においてどのように評価されているかについて研究している。博士論文では、インドネシアの異文化間の健康実践の文脈における伝統的医薬品（薬用植物）の生物多様性の価値を、学際的なアプローチを用いて考察した。最近では、ブータン東部の野生の食用果物の多様性と利用を評価する民族植物学的研究にも携わっている。また、媒介としての生物多様性の利用の研究にも関心がある。東京カレッジでは、薬用植物について、ナレッジコモンズの媒介という視点から研究を続けていく予定である。
